HomeWind - Steam Game Review!
This game has only been out for just over a day at the time of this review, so here's my opinion on it so far!
HomeWind, by solo developer Adi Zhavo, is a relaxing strategy game. I think it's good for passing time and unwinding, and here's why:
Gameplay Opinion:
The game is a strategy game. This means that, yes, you must use your brain while playing it. 🧠
You begin each level by placing down your "City Center" - a large building, which you must place on the map.
After that, you will receive your first few buildings. You earn "points" in the game by placing buildings near other buildings that they are compatible with. For example, by placing a house nearer to the City Center, you get more points.
Choosing a building pack after completing a stage.
Place stuff near to something they are compatible with, and you'll gain more points!
The strategy part of the game comes from the fact that you can't just place the buildings anywhere, as certain terrain may not be suitable to place them on. That's why you must think carefully about each building you place, to ensure that you can still place other buildings as you receive them.
Each stage of each level requires you to earn enough points to move on to the next stage of that level. If you don't get enough points in one of the stages, you will lose, and have to replay the level! This means that placement positions have to be really thought about, to make sure there is enough room for more!
If you get enough points in each stage, you complete that level and can move on to the next one (which get progressively more difficult).
Is it fun?
From my time playing it so far, then I'd say yes. I'll admit I haven't got hours of playtime, so I can't ensure you that it doesn't get boring, but for now it's a game I think I will play more. I've been enjoying the challenge and the concentration that this game requires, and it is fun to play when I need to unwind and relax a bit.
It's worth noting that (at least at the moment) the game is free to get from Steam, so it's not like you're taking a gamble by getting it - if this type of game turns out to not be your style, then you can just uninstall it again. There are purchases you can make in-game to unlock "Premium Levels" and "Map Sizes" on the Sandbox mode, but there are loads of free levels, so you can play through them before deciding whether or not to pay $5 to support the solo developer and unlock more levels.
Does it need a good computer?
I don't think so. This isn't the sort of game that has stuff that will be really intensive on a device, it should run on any device that has acceptable specs.
Summary:
Therefore, I do recommend that you give this game a go. It's free, so why not try? And, like me, you may find that it is actually quite fun to play when wanting to pass the time.
