Stardew Valley - Steam Game Review!
I've been looking forward to writing this review on my favourite game. Stardew Valley is amazing!
Stardew Valley. Those two words make me smile, because I have many fond memories of this game.
Coded by a solo developer, this game captures your attention and keeps you playing for hours at a time. It's easy to get hundreds of gameplay hours without even realising.
I'm going to talk about why this is my favourite game, but if you're in a rush and don't have time, let me summarise it for you - buy the game!
Gameplay Opinion:
If you've read other reviews of this game, I'm sure you've seen most of them raving about how amazing Stardew Valley is. Well, let me admit, mine is not going to be any different - I think this game is spectacular too.
You start off by inheriting your Grandad's old farm, which he left to you after he died. It's in a quaint little place called, surprisingly enough, Stardew Valley.
You start off by planting 15 parsnip seeds, which you are given by the Mayor of Stardew Valley. Over the days, the seeds grow, until you can harvest and sell your parsnips for money.
That might sound a bit boring right? Well, what if I were to tell you that that is only a fraction of the things you can do in the game. Because there's also mining, monster hunting, quests, challenges, relationships, animals, fishing, and even a greedy corporate company that wants to profit off of Stardew Valley at the expense of its happy community. Community events and cutscenes also make it more interesting!
The character "Haley" hosts a fundraiser!
There's also lots of hidden secrets and stuff for you to work out, but if you are the sort of person who doesn't like that sort of challenge, then no worries - you can just head over to the Stardew Valley Wiki and find out what it means!
Relationships and friendships help make the game interesting!
Eventually, you will be raking in the money from your farm, with sprinklers and "Junimos" doing the hard work for you, and you can instead focus on completing quests and creating friendships with the other characters. The other characters, of which there are many, all have unique dialogues too, which helps stop the game from feeling monotonous.
Eventually, you might even get married to one of the bachelors or bachelorettes!
I got married in-game to the character Haley, after many hours of playing! This felt like a great achievement!
The game allows you to play it for hours, without it getting boring. I've played on my world for over 35 hours, and still haven't got close to finishing it - more and more stuff keeps getting discovered! I really love this!
If you want to expand the game, it has mod support!
This is another great thing about Stardew Valley - if you want to change the experience of playing the game, you can just download (or even make your own) mods! These are easy to add thanks to a tool called SMAPI, and you can then change the game from things such as new farms, other characters, new items, or more! I even coded my own mod, allowing me to integrate game logs into Discord!
My mod - "Jack's Stardew Sync"!
Is it fun?
If you've read what I wrote above, then you probably don't need me to tell you - yes!
Does it need a good computer?
I wouldn't say so. The game is quite light on resources, and I play it on my laptop with no performance issues at all. It also has low battery usage, which is good for playing on the go!
Summary:
Please, give Stardew Valley a try. It is just an amazing game, coded by a solo developer.
